ACCIONA has been active in the United States for twenty five years, bringing global expertise to the development, construction, and operation of major infrastructure and energy projects.
Over this time, the company has built a strong presence by delivering complex projects safely, on schedule, and in collaboration with public agencies, partners, and local communities. ACCIONA’s work across transportation, museums, water, and energy reflects a long-term commitment to investing in domestic capabilities, creating high-quality jobs, and delivering infrastructure that supports economic growth and resilient communities.
The SR 400 Express Lanes in Atlanta is a major milestone in the company’s continued expansion in the United States and one of our most significant transport projects in Georgia.
Delivered through a Public-Private Partnership model, the project covers the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of approximately 16 miles of managed express lanes along one of the region’s most congested corridors, with long-term maintenance extending over 55 years.
This segment is designed to transform mobility across the city and is expected to improve corridor capacity and traffic reliability, reducing congestion, and supporting more efficient and sustainable transportation across Atlanta.
The Doheny Seawater Reverse Osmosis desalination plant in Dana Point, California is a design, build, operate, and maintain contract delivered through a progressive model. The project will provide South Orange County with a reliable, locally sourced, and drought-resilient drinking water supply.
The facility incorporates advanced reverse osmosis technology, fully submerged slant wells, and innovative brine management systems to minimize environmental impact while ensuring a sustainable and resilient water source for the region.
ACCIONA Energia expanded its portfolio in the US with the acquisition of two new wind farms (300MW). The Green Pastures I and II wind farms are located in Texas and will generate approximately 1.1TWh of renewable energy per year.
ACCIONA Infrastructure entered into an agreement with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to deliver the Calcasieu River Bridge, part of the I-10 corridor connecting Lake Charles and Westlake.
The project includes the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of a new bridge and associated corridor upgrades, replacing the existing 70-year-old structure with a modern solution to improve capacity, safety, and long-term performance.
Scope includes a new multi-lane bridge, reconstruction of sections of the I-10 corridor, and the implementation of a free-flow tolling system to support more efficient traffic movement along one of Louisiana’s busiest routes.
Located in Hunt County, TX, the Cunningham BESS is ACCIONA Energía’s flagship energy storage project. The project is ACCIONA’s sixth investment in the State of Texas, joining the Fort Bend Solar Farm, Red-Tailed Hawk Solar Farm and the La Chalupa, San Roman and Palmas wind farms in Cameron County, TX. The 190MW/380MWh Cunningham facility is one of the largest operating battery energy storage projects on the Texas grid. The facility, located 55 miles from Dallas, consists of 159 cabinets of 2.4MWh blocks manufactured by Sungrow and liquid-cooled cells manufactured by CATL.
ACCIONA was awarded the Fargo–Moorhead River Flood Diversion Channel, one of the largest civil engineering projects in the United States. Located between North Dakota and Minnesota, the project is designed to protect more than 235,000 people from recurrent flooding of the Red River through a 30-mile diversion channel and associated infrastructure.
The project is also a landmark in project delivery. Structured as the first public-private partnership developed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and one of the first climate adaptation P3 projects in North America, it brings together design, construction, financing, operation, and long-term maintenance in a single integrated model. This milestone reinforced ACCIONA’s leadership in delivering complex, resilient infrastructure through innovative full lifecycle solutions.
ACCIONA Energia grid-connected the San Roman Wind Farm, a 93-MW project located in Cameron County, Texas. The wind farm supplies enough renewable energy to power over 30,000 homes. The project was ACCIONA’s first wind farm in Texas, and 8th in the USA
The Tatanka Wind Farm, in service since 2008, was ACCIONA’s first large-scale project in the United States and the first wind farm in the country to use ACCIONA Windpower technology. Located across North and South Dakota, the 180 MW project was developed under challenging winter conditions and today generates enough clean electricity to power approximately 60,000 homes while avoiding an estimated 550,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year.
Located in the heart of the dessert, the Nevada Solar One project is a 64 MW Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plant owned by ACCIONA Energia. Operational since 2007, it was the first new CSP plant built globally in over 15 years, using parabolic trough technology to generate roughly 136 GWh annually for over 15,000 homes. The facility spans 130 hectares, features 182,000 mirrors, and is located near Boulder City.
Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Plant in Florida faced operational challenges at the time ACCIONA was awarded the contract to redesign, rebuild and operate the plant for a 25 period. Over three years, the plant was redesigned and reconstructed, with upgrades to systems, processes, and automation to improve performance and reliability.
ACCIONA operates the facility which The facility has a capacity of up to 110,000 m³/day and is designed to supply at least 10% of the drinking water consumed in the Tampa Bay region. It marked ACCIONA’s first large-scale international desalination project and a key milestone in the development of its water business.
ACCIONA was established as a diversified group, with José María Entrecanales de Azcárate as President and Juan Entrecanales de Azcárate as Vice President. This marked the creation of an international holding company operating across a broad range of sectors.
On 11 March 1931, José Entrecanales Ibarra, a civil engineer from Bilbao, and Manuel Távora, an entrepreneur from Seville, founded Entrecanales y Távora, S.A.. The company’s earliest projects included the remodelling of the San Telmo Bridge, designed to preserve the view of the Golden Tower in accordance with the wishes of Alfonso XIII, as well as construction work on the Cádiz pier.
