ACCIONA now dubbed a utility on Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

ACCIONA is becoming a regular on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), but with a twist: It has now been slotted into the Electric Utilities industry, as the renewable energy share of ACCIONA's business profile has grown larger in recent years.

The sector switch is a big challenge, because it means changing assessment parameters and factors and tackling new metrics. In this context, being listed on the DJSI World ratifies ACCIONA's ability to ride at the forefront of corporate sustainability policy application.

ACCIONA has made an acknowledged effort to find a balance among the three spheres that define a company's sustainability level, so that its position on the indexes reflects an assessment that is closely aligned in all three dimensions, environmental, economic and social.

In the economic dimension, the company's top scores are in anti-trust policy, code of conduct and management of the risk stemming from energy price changes. In the environmental sphere, ACCIONA's climate change strategy and its reporting of environmental indicators and initiatives performed especially well in assessment. Lastly, in the social dimension, ACCIONA has made progress in attracting and retaining talent and in social reporting.

The 2013/2014 DJSI World will contain a total of 333 securities selected from a total of close to 3,000 companies invited to participate in assessment, and the indexes' new roster will take effect on 23 September.
